Don't Be Like Me ...

Am I a lawyer?  Yes. Did I get here in the best way possible? No, not at all. I made many many mistakes which have made this career much harder than necessary. First, I didn't prepare for the LSAT properly, which means that although I did okay, I left something on the table which prevented me from getting into my choice of schools.  Second, I didn't prepare for the first year of law school, I just showed up, and although I did okay I didn't make law review and didn't get very good summer clerkship options. Third, I made no financial plan to finance my law degree or repay my loans; and consequently I'm in over $200,000 in debt.  Finally, although I enjoy my current practice area and the firm I'm working for, I honestly just "ended up" there based on who I knew.  I also had a very existential crisis at one point and left the practice of law for 8 years to start my own music business, only to be back at my current firm (God bless them for hiring me back).  So, while I've been lucky, I've seen many friends and colleagues become very depressed and upset with their careers.  I've certainly lamented and kicked myself over my past mistakes (especially as regarding law school financing).   The purpose of this website is to help you not make mistakes (or at least make far fewer mistakes than I did) on your career journey.  Whether you're trying to be a lawyer, paralegal, or legal professional, the goal of this site is to make sure you're prepared, well-informed, and have all the tools you need to get the most out of your career.  There are tools for (1) those who are looking into this career field, (2) those who are in law school and/or looking to get their first law job, and (3) those who are already in law, but want to make a career change (solo firm, lateral move, change practice areas, or get out of law entirely).  I hope you get a lot of value from this site and receive the guidance you need to succeed.  Please subscribe on the homepage to get all the latest news and insights.  Also, please check out the podcast for guest interviews with legal professionals of all kinds.  I wish you the very best in your life and legal career.

Cheers,

Mike
